Der russische Inlandsgeheimdienst FSB hat den Tod des Topterroristen Doku Umarow bestätigt. Der „russische Bin Laden“ sei bei einem Einsatz „neutralisiert“ worden, sagte FSB-Chef Alexander Bortnikow heute in Moskau laut der Agentur Interfax. Mehr als 200 Extremisten seien zudem festgenommen worden. Dabei hätten die Einsatzkräfte große Mengen Waffen und Sprengsätze sichergestellt.
Bortnikow sagte zudem, der FSB habe gemeinsam mit Polizei und Ermittlern die Hintermänner der tödlichen Terroranschläge in Wolgograd von Dezember 2013 mit insgesamt 30 Toten geschnappt. Die Attentate seien aufgeklärt, sagte Bortnikow.
Mitte März hatte erstmals eine Website der radikalen Islamisten im Konfliktgebiet Nordkaukasus den „Märtyrertod“ Umarows mitgeteilt. Damals hatten die Behörden die Mitteilung nicht bestätigt. Umarow hatte für schwere Bombenanschläge in Russland mit Dutzenden Toten die Verantwortung übernommen, etwa auf die Moskauer U-Bahn 2010 und den internationalen Flughafen Moskau-Domodedowo 2011.
